Brain Injury Education
BrainTrust Canada offers formal education workshops to community partners and professionals, including education to various streams at Okanagan College (Human Service Workers, Therapy Assistants, Homecare Aides, etc.).
Example of 8 hour workshop curriculum
- Neuroanatomy
- Mechanisms of injury (trauma, hypoxia, ingestion of toxins, cerebral vascular accidents, open head injury, closed head injury, infections)
- Outcomes (physical, psychosocial, cognitive)
- Compensatory strategy training (assessment and implementation)
- Family reactions and support
- Competent community practices
- Advocacy
Workshops can be tailored to specific group needs (i.e. mental health issues and brain injury, addiction issues and brain injury, behavior and brain injury).
