Child and Youth Services
COBIS offers specialized child and youth support services to children and youth aged 0 to 19, as well as their families.
We provide support, training and instruction to children with acquired brain injury, family members, educational supports, and rehabilitation supports in the school setting, at home and in the community.
Training and support is based on cognitive and behavioural principals of organic brain injury and is provided by trained and experienced professional staff.
Services include:
- Provide education in sequelae to acquired brain injury
- Provide training and support in awareness and recognition
- Assist in the development of effective support strategies
- Assist in the development of effective behavioural strategies
- Assist in the development of effective compensatory strategies
- Undertake individualized support with family members
- Provide support relating to IEP development and implementation
- Coordinate services for children and adolescents with brain injury, their families, peers and treating professionals
- Gather relevant information relating to acute services and outcomes, rehabilitation services and outcomes and discharge planning from all treating professionals
- Provide consistent information to client, family and school based team regarding service components, course of treatments and potential outcomes
- Liaise with involved professionals
- Advocate with client/family for access to services and entitlements
- Provide group development and facilitation
- Assist in the development and evaluation of protocols used in Community Support Services
- Facilitate and coordinate Family Support Programs
- Provide peer in-services and facilitate information sharing sessions
- Collect service data relating to pediatric ABI support requirements
